It’s a wrap!

The scaffolding now wraps the entire house. What a project it was to put up!

Paint stripping began in earnest on the mansard dormers and the south bay windows. And carpentry repairs got underway. Much of the original ornate millwork on the mansard dormer windows needs to be replaced. Custom mahogany trim is milled to match the original.

Thirty-two pairs of shutters were removed from the house and taken to the workshop for restoration. They’ll be stripped, repaired, sanded, primed and painted a beautiful shade of very, very dark green to match the original shutter paint color.

The mansard windows are being prepped for new lead-coated copper tops. The old metal roofs were removed, and we found the barrel at the top of the window was in beautiful shape. Not so for the flat portions of the dormer roofs. Carpentry repairs will have to be completed before the new copper roofs can be installed.
