The HVAC overhaul is complete

It took three months to complete the HVAC overhaul. We are so incredibly grateful for our team who worked so hard on the plan and the installation, trouble-shooting and problem-solving their way through it. The project’s general contractor was Zak Dunne of Renaissance Restoration right here in Galena, and the HVAC contractor was All Seasons of Dubuque, Iowa.

We replaced a HUGE, inefficient, outdated steam boiler that provided heat to the lower level, main floor, and second floor (where the guest rooms are located). The house didn’t have central air conditioning, just window units in the guest rooms and two on the main floor. We replaced the steam boiler and window units with a series of heating and cooling solutions including:

  • New high-efficiency boiler

  • High-velocity heating and cooling on the lower level and first floor with 2 air handlers and 2 a/c units

  • 6 ductless mini-split heat pumps for the second floor guest rooms and hallway

  • New conventional forced air heating and cooling on the third floor

This patchwork of heating and cooling solutions was designed to solve several problems — too cold in the winter, too hot in the summer, and inefficient all the time. Increased efficiency and increased comfort. That’s a win-win!
